Restricțiile legate de consumul de carne și căsătorii au fost introduse treptat, în funcție de evenimentele biblice și de relația dintre Dumnezeu și oameni. Iată o cronologie aproximativă:

Ce interzice Legea lui Moise la masă

• În primele capitole ale Genezei, oamenii sunt descriși trăind într-o lume în care alimentația era predominant vegetală. Dumnezeu oferă oamenilor „toată iarba care face sămânță” și „toți pomii care au rod cu sămânță” ca hrană.
• După potop, în anul 1656 de la Creație – conform cronologiei biblice ortodoxe, însă apare o schimbare importantă: Dumnezeu îi spune lui Noe că oamenii pot consuma și carne, dar cu o restricție clară: sângele nu trebuie consumat. Prin urmare, această schimbare reflectă o lume diferită de cea din Eden, în care oamenii trebuie să învețe să trăiască în condiții noi.
• Restricțiile mai detaliate apar odată cu Legea lui Moise, în jurul anului 2500-2600 de la creație – aproximativ 1500 î.Hr. În sunt stabilite reguli stricte privind animalele curate și necurate. Aici, Dumnezeu îi oferă lui Moise și Aaron reguli clare despre animalele permise și interzise. De exemplu, porcul este considerat necurat deoarece, deși are copita despicată, nu rumegă mâncarea. Alte restricții includ peștii fără solzi și aripi, păsările de pradă și insectele care nu pot sări.

În Leviticul 18 apar și restricții legate de căsătorii, în special cele între rude apropiate.

Aceste restricții au fost introduse pentru a păstra puritatea spirituală, sănătatea și ordinea socială a urmașilor. Astfel, familia devine locul în care credința și tradițiile sunt transmise din generație în generație.

Uneori istoria nu se schimbă prin zgomotul imperiilor,
