Is the Holy Fire real, or is it a trick that has somehow stayed secret for centuries? Broc walks in wanting a one-word verdict. Veil answers with a marble column in Jerusalem, cracked for more than four hundred years, and a lamp that, according to tradition, has been burning in Christ’s tomb since 326.
This is Part 3, the finale of our Beyond series on the Holy Light of Jerusalem. After Part 1 and Part 2, we weigh what is left: a manuscript copied from a copy, a professor’s look at the crack, a witness who watched the tomb searched and sealed, and Egeria, the pilgrim who wrote about the same lamp sixteen centuries ago. Broc still doesn’t have his word, but fake is getting harder to say out loud.
